How Can I Find My RV VIN Number?

There are times you need to locate the vehicle identification number (VIN) on your camper, travel trailer, fifth wheel or motorhome. Finding it can be quite a challenge on some RVs.

Here are the most likely places to find your RV VIN –

Travel Trailers or Campers: along the frame and along the tongue and inside exterior compartments and interior cabinets.

Fifth Wheels:  at the front lower exterior wall/sidewall on the roadside or along the framework of the pin box. 

Motorhomes: from the outside, look through the driver’s side windshield or search around the driver’s area of the cockpit.

If a quick search in these places doesn’t turn up your VIN, keep up the search using the lists below.

Keep in mind the VIN may be on a vinyl or paper sticker, on a metal plate welded somewhere onto your RV or it could be stamped right into your metal frame.

Travel Trailer or Camper VIN Locations:

• Tongue of the trailer
• On the frame under the propane tanks
• Frame rail as it leaves the trailer tongue.
• Inside an interior cabinet where other RV information is listed such as RV weight, carrying capacity and equipment information
• Under the front or rear end of the trailer along the support bars
• Inside a wheel well
• In an outside storage compartment – check the door and the walls of the compartment
• On the frame of the entrance door
• Under the kitchen sink
• Inside the heater door or the wardrobe closet

Fifth Wheel VIN Locations:

• Front lower roadside corner of the exterior wall/sidewall
• On the fifth wheel pinbox frame
• Inside an interior cabinet where other information is listed such as RV’s unloaded weight, carrying capacity and equipment information
• In an outside storage compartment – check the door and the walls of the compartment
• On the frame of the entrance door

Motorhome VIN Locations:

• Through the windshield on the driver’s side (like on an automobile)
• On or inside the driver’s door or passenger’s door
• Inside an interior cabinet where other information is listed such as RV’s unloaded weight, carrying capacity and equipment information
• In an outside storage compartment – check the door and the walls of the compartment
• Inside the engine compartment – on the engine itself or on the engine compartment wall
• On the steering column
• Under driver’s window on the inside wall
• To the left side of the instrument panel
• Under driver’s window near driver’s knee
